We left Kinchkha, Imereti, late in the evening and drove to Svaneti – land of majestic mountains! We saw such scenery along the way…..awfully beautiful Enguri Dam that is a hydroelectric dam on the Enguri River in Georgia (currently it is the world’s second highest concrete arch dam with a height of 271.5 metres (891 ft).
The drive itself not quite easy – you have to pass villages, and not so great roads where speed is limited to 50 km/h. Zeda Kinchkha, Imereti – Mestia, Svaneti is 200km apart, but it takes a bit over 4 hours to get there 🙂 Yes.
How to get there:
Option 1: Walk from Mestia to glacier – 25 km in total daywalk.
Option 2: Ride on horseback from Mestia to trailhead – it would take around 1h to the starting point, and then around 6km in total easy hiking.
Option 3: Take taxi from Mestia to trailhead and then 6km in total easy hiking.
Its so easy, nowhere to get lost, and level of difficulty is easy. It’s just that it is locating near the borders, and there is good chance to meet soldiers who might ask for proof of identity. Other than that the hike itself is very rewarding!
And then…. this !
